WEEK 30: SPACE TO BREATHE

Dear all, welcome to Week 30. I hope none of you were too badly affected by the Microsoft outage last week! In our family, we suffered some travel woes but nothing too dramatic. This week, my friend Rebecca shares some beautiful thoughts on how events like these can sometimes help us to stop and take a look around.

In Rebecca's words...

Today, Friday, 19 July 2024, there was a global outage, impacting businesses including banks, airlines, train companies, telecommunications companies, TV and radio broadcasters, doctors' booking systems, chemists and supermarkets.

During this time a space was created for the earth to breathe, and I remembered that we are part of so much more. We are children of God, His creation, and his love for us and our love for Him is more important than all of the distractions we create during our time on Earth.

Raindrops on a window

My personal hope is that some of those who couldn't get to work today were able to stop for a moment too. I hope they were able to look outside and perhaps see a tree moving gently in the wind, or a bird flying through the sky, or watch a raindrop travelling down a window pane.

And in these things I hope there was a realisation somewhere deep within that we are so much more than the sum of our job or anything we do to fill our time, and within this space I hope a new or closer bond with God and the life we are each supposed to live was forged.

A friend of mine write to me the next day telling me, 'I'm up very early and watching the news. A travel expert was on explaining about travel disruptions. The presenter asked about compensation, 'how does it work? What if it’s seen as an act of God?''

Rebecca started her life as a vicar's daughter in New Zealand she moved with her family to the United Kingdom when still just ten years old. In the middle of raising her three children she encountered a low point in her life. During this time she discovered Believe Energy, which helped her reconnect with the church and her faith on a deeper more personal level. She now works part time in a church office as a Communications Officer, a job she very much enjoys.
