Hi all, here we are with week 34. Rosie has written a beautiful reflection on how we can be so focused on the future that we miss what God is doing in the here and now. I am sure that this is something that we can all relate to! I am also sure that you will find her words encouraging and inspiring, as we look to find our peace in God.
In Rosie's words...
"Lately I feel God has been reminding me about finding home, peace and comfort in Him during times of uncertainty. It can be so easy to always be comparing our lives to others, wanting to be in the next stage of life, wondering what the next chapter looks like. But how much of God are we missing whilst being so focused on the future?
I am always drawn to the story of David. During his time as a shepherd boy, looking after his sheep, David kept a constant relationship with God, a foundational start to the ministry he had ahead of him. This relationship he built with God supported him when trials came his way.
I feel God has been showing me how in my own life, I am often looking ahead, worried about what stage of life I should be in. Lately I have found myself unsettled in the uncertainty, unable to enjoy life because my focus is on the future, but I wonder how much am I wasting of what God is doing in the here and now? What could I be learning about him? How could I be drawing closer to him?
It can be so easy to miss the beauty of what God is doing in this moment of time, what God is teaching me during this stage of life. David managed to find the beauty of the stage of life he was in as a shepherd boy, God’s timing was and is perfect. David had peace because his foundation was within God. I have found that peace comes from having my roots in him. This is something I am always working on, but it is amazing how much of a difference it makes when we are living in our own strength compared to living a life that is being held by God.
It makes me think about how I want to have that closeness and deepness of relationship with God, even during times of uncertainty and struggle. It is a constant reminder to myself to draw in when it is so much easier to pull back. I feel inspired by the peace David found in the simple life he lived as a shepherd boy, but the deep richness he had as a result of the one his life was built on.
It has left me reflecting on how I get to the stage where no matter what is going on in my life, and this is a challenge for us all, whether we are feeling settled, peaceful, unsettled or lost, I am able to find home wherever I am because God is my ultimate foundation and focus. There is a beauty in the knowledge that God has placed us where we are because he has a plan for us there, he has things for us to learn and he wants to use us in that place."
Rosie works in Children’s ministry and in her spare time loves interior design and spending time with friends and family.
